Past Continuous Tense
Gradimo ga uz pomoć pomoćnog glagola TO BE u prošlom vremenu, a to su WAS i WERE i glavnog glagola kome dodajemo nastavak -ing.
WAS koristimo za I, he, she, it.
WERE koristimo za we, you, they.
Potvrdni oblik
Subjekat + was/were + infinitive-ing
I was reading a book all day yesterday.
They were playing tennis for hours last weekend.
Upitni oblik se gradi inverzijom.
Was I reading a book all day yesterday?
Were they playing tennis for hours?
Odrični oblik se gradi dodavanjem NOT na pomoćni glagol - wasn't i weren't.
I wasn't reading a book.
They weren't playing tennis.
UPOTREBA
Osnovna upotreba se zaključuje iz naziva:
Razlika je u tome da sam u rečenicama naglasila all day yesterday, ili for hours last weekend. Znači, naglašeno je trajanje. Nažalost, ne mora uvek biti naglašeno trajanje. Nekada se podrazumeva. Znači, razmislite o vrsti radnje.
Tada obično koristimo reč while, što znači 'dok'.
I was watching TV while my brother was doing his homework.
We were playing cards while Jason was sleeping.
;) Sve ovo do pojavljivanja drugog Meseca, ređaš u Past Continuous Tense-u.
It was a warm evening. People were walking, shildren were loughing, the older ones were riding bicycles. Then, the second Moon appeared!
WAS koristimo za I, he, she, it.
WERE koristimo za we, you, they.
